Myron Sloan, 39, of the 1300 block of South Keeler Avenue, was charged with cruel treatment to animals, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon--both felonies--and a misdemeanor charge of not having a firearm owner's identification card. Authorities began surveillance on Sloan's home earlier this month  based on a top, and served a search warrant today, the sheriff's department said. Chicago police SWAT teams, who were part of the joint investigation that also included the sheriff's department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, made entry into the home. Inside, authorities found an 8-month-old emaciated pit bull that was unable to walk, and another pit bull with fighting scars, the sheriff's department said. The department also said two other pit bulls on the property were also in poor condition. Authorities also found a three- foot iguana that Sloan kept in a two-foot cage. The sheriff's department said the animals were malnourished and kept in makeshift cages with wire floors that tore their feet. When tactical cops asked the offender if he had other guns, he reportedly said, ‘Yeah, I got a shotgun in pieces upstairs, but I didn’t shoot my dog.  I killed it with a bat.  I hit it in the head with a f@&#ing bat.” Police recovered the body of the dog—a black 14-year-old female named “Shakes”—from the trash can in the rear of 3329 Wesley.  When police handcuffed Paul A. Canlas, 43, of 3333 Wesley, he reportedly said, “It was my dog.  What, I can’t kill my own dog?” Canlas had a valid FOID card, but his roommate did not.  She told police she did not intend to allow him to return and wished the guns removed from the premises.  Police recovered the air rifle and a Norinco 12-gauge shotgun, along with the wooden baseball bat. Canlas waived his Miranda rights; he reportedly told detectives he had been out of work for nine months and had been drinking at a friend’s place when he decided to kill the dog because it was “old and sick”.  He allegedly said he went home, led his dog into his garage and smashed her over the head with a baseball bat.  Canlas reportedly stated he thought the first blow killed the dog, but he delivered a second blow to make sure.  AUGUST 4, 2010 (Wednesday) **COURT: 2650 S California, Rm 302 (Judge T. Brian Garcia, 32, of 2202 S. Grove in Berwyn, was charged…. On June 22, the girls — ages 12 and 8 — were walking down their street in Berwyn with one holding a small dog when Garcia drove by in a minivan and followed them into an alley, according to court records. He then began talking with the girls and asking them about the dog. He told them how cute the dog was and asked how old it was. He then asked to pet it, and when one of the girls moved closer to the minivan, Garcia snatched the dog and put it onto his seat, court records said. He then told the girls they had to go around and get into the van to get the dog back. One of the children asked why she couldn't get the dog through the door or window, but he told them both were broken, court records said. Investigators later discovered the front passenger door had been, in fact, dead bolted and child protection locks had been engaged on all doors, court records said. A rear sliding door was opened and one of the girls attempted to reach the dog without entering, but failed. The kidnapping was thwarted by a Berwyn police officer who happened to be driving down the alley. He observed what was going on and began a field interview, court records said. Garcia gave numerous conflicting accounts of what he was doing, then finally broke down and told the officer, "I don't know. I messed up. I'm a sick individual," court records indicate. Police found candy, a child's watch and condoms inside the minivan….
